Old Denim Pockets Sewing project

2 back pockets from an old pair of jeans

2 sequired and beaded appliques 1 yard of laux-gold chain

1 circle of double-sided Velcro

Sewing needle and blue thread to match denim

A few straight pins, fabric glue

1. Play around with the appliques to find the spot that looks the cutest on the outside of one of the pockets. Then pin the appliques to that pocket. They'll be easier to sew on.

2. With needle and thread, hand sew all around the edges of hte appliques to affix both of them securely to the pocket. Nice!

3. Now pin the two pockets together, good sides facing out.

4. Position one half of the Velcro on the inside top of one of the pockets; position the other half of the Velcro on the inside of the othe rpocket, so the Veicro pieces are facing each other. Make sure they will meet so they will act as your pursette closure. When they are in the right place, glue the Velcro to each side of the interior of the purse.

5. Using small, sturdy stitches 1/2" from the edge, hand sew the pockets together all the way around (keep the top open, of course!). Take out the pins.

6. To make the strap, hand sew 1" worth of the ends of the chain to each side of the purse; sewing it on the inside so the chain won't show. The strap should now be securely attached. (Test it with a few gentle tugs to make sure.)
