Computerized Sewing: A Personalized Comfy Pillow

To complete this project, you will need a Brother embroidery machine and their PE-Design embroidery design software.

Materials and Supplies

* Brother embroidery machine ULT2001 or ULT2002D

* PE-Design 4.0 embroidery design software

* 1 piece of fabric 20'' X 20''

* 2 pieces of fabric 20'' X 12''

* Stabilizer, cut-away or tear away

* 1 - 16'' pillow form or Poly foam/fiber for pillow stuffing.

* 12'' sew-in Velcro

* 1 man's necktie

* Assortment of Brother embroidery thread

* Brother bobbin thread

* Brother memory card Scenes SA353 or design of choice

* Water-soluble marker

* Straight edge marker

Creating the Poem

In the PE-Design create a poem in a font of your choice. Use a size that will fit in the largest hoop.

Step 1: Down load to a floppy or the PE-Design Card.

Step 2: Draw a square 16'' x 16'' on the 20'' x 20'' piece of fabric.

Step 3: Hoop the stabilizer and the fabric in the upper right corner of the 16'' square.

Step 4: Insert the design card or the floppy in the machine and embroider the poem.

Step 5: Insert Design Card No. 53. Select the fisherman.

Step 6: Hoop the stabilizer and the fabric in the lower left corner.

Step 7: Place design as desired and embroider.

Step 8: Select a man's necktie. Tie the knot and arrange diagonally across the pillow. Tack the tie to the pillow with a needle and thread.

Preparing the Back

Step 1: Press under 1'' on each of the long edges of the two back pieces.

Step 2: Sew Velcro to the back of one piece and the top of the second piece.

Finishing the Pillow

Step 1: With right side together sew the front and back together.

Step 2: Open and stuff with fiberfill or insert a 16'' pillow form.

HINT:

To prevent "dog-eared" corners on your pillow, stuff each corner with a small amount of fiberfill. This will help create nice full square corners.

Kay Brooks, sewing consultant, created this pillow idea for the Brother Embroidery Machines ULT2001 and ULT2002D.
