Embroidery Design - Hot-iron & Photocopy Transfers

Two of the many popular methods for transferring motifs are hot iron and photocopy transfers.

Hot-iron transfers are often used in commercial designs. Simply position the transfer paper face down on the right side of the fabric and press down with a hot iron for about 10 seconds. Set the iron temperature to suit your fabric.

Photocopy transfers can be done for both black-and-white and color photocopied designs. Dampen the right side of the photocopy and the fabric using a mixture of water, mineral spirits and a few drops of liquid detergent. Place the fabric right side up on a felt pad, lay the dampened photocopy face down on it, and press with a hot iron set for cotton. Photocopying is also the simplest method of enlarging or reducing your designs.
